How to load a dishwasher

A serious procedure. From the book by Ron Diamond.

01

The Machine & Hydraulic Clearance

A dishwasher is not an accommodating envelope. It is a recirculating hydro-ballistic chamber operating under calibrated pressure curves. Before a single vessel is introduced, confirm the spray arms rotate freely. If a ladle arrests the lower arm, the load is a gesture.

The Lower Rack: Facial Plate Geometry

Stand plates in the tines, faces toward the centre jet. Two plates that kiss share a spray shadow. Nested casserole lids are a common failure. The Spacing Theory is this sentence, expanded.

03

The Upper Rack: Concavity & Tilt

Glasses rims down. Bowls angled so water may enter and leave. Plastic never on the heating element. Stemware in the holders if the machine was specified with them.

Cutlery: Diagonal vs. Nesting

Do not bundle the spoons. Mix the basket so forks cannot spoon. Sharp blades point down in an open basket. The handle debate is real. Safety is the axiom; nesting is the sin.
